After winning a near-fatal and years-long battle with anorexia, Holly-Renée devotes her professional life to helping others fully recover from eating disorders. Empowering others “to recover for life”, she says.
Holly-Renée graduated from Antioch University Los Angeles, in Los Angeles, California where she earned a Master of Arts in Psychology. She completed an additional internship and training in self-injury and trauma, and trained at the Loyola Marymount University Art Therapy Program in Los Angeles. She is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor (CEDS-C).
She has been an adjunct faculty member in the UAB Psychology Department, where she taught eating disorder-related classes to honors students. She also maintains a small Birmingham-based private practice specializing in eating disorders, trauma, and self-injury.
She has treated clients with eating disorders for over 20 years, and worked in the field of eating disorders, and women’s issues for more than 25 years.
She has been a consultant for treatment programs nationwide. In 2007 she founded and developed Alabama’s first residential treatment center for eating disorders, the first residential of its kind with 24-hour nursing and Joint Commission Accreditation.
Before returning to her hometown of Birmingham, Holly-Renée worked with eating disorders in various treatment centers throughout the United States. She also maintained a private-practice in Los Angeles, treating those with eating disorders, self-injury, trauma and women’s issues.
After 25+ years of full recovery from a nearly fatal 12+ -year battle with Anorexia Nervosa, Holly-Renée intimately understands how eating disorders can destroy the lives of those suffering with the illness as well as their loved ones. She genuinely realizes that each struggle is unique, and that journey requires grace and guts to find recovery. She believes in truly individualized, respectful and relationship-based treatment that works in collaboration with – not against – each client.
When she isn’t working, you’ll most likely find “HR” grabbing a cup of joe at a local coffeehouse with a book, hanging with friends, enjoying a hike or hitting a bag at a local boxing gym. Anyone fortunate to know her appreciates her quirky sense of humor that helps her keep perspective on this thing called life.
Her perfect Saturday includes coffee, boxing, books and Border Collies. And maybe a few people on the side.
Crescent Grace is staffed with compassionate professionals who will guide your journey to full recovery every step of the way.
